Tips for Caring for Running Sneakers

Just like a lot of our personal belongings, we should do our best to take care of our running shoes. Check out these seven tips below that will surely get you more mileage in your sneakers.

Give Your Shoes Some Shade

Place your running sneakers in a shoe box inside your closet in your room or underneath your bed. Keep your shoes away from direct sunlight at all times. Don’t leave them in your car either, not even your trunk. All of that heat isnt good on your shoes, they can dry up and harden.

Quality Sneakers

When purchasing running shoes, make sure they are quality sneakers that are sure to last a while and won’t fall apart immediately that’s made out of flimsy materials.

Free Your Shoe Laces

You should untie your sneakers before taking them off instead of just pulling your feet out of them. Do this every time you take your shoes off. And every time you put your sneakers on, tie your shoelaces. This would stop the heel cup inside the sneaker from not having enough support and getting crushed.

Eco-Friendly Shoe Cleaners

Use environmentally friendly products to keep your running sneakers fresh and squeaky clean. You can also try hand washing your shoes, it wouldn’t be a good idea to wash them in the washing machine or dry them in the dryer. That could ruin the shoes and your household appliances.

2 Pairs are Better Than 1

Try to have at least two or more pairs of running sneakers and rotate when you wear them.

Only Run with Them

They’re your running shoes for a reason. Don’t wear them to work, school or going out. Only wear them when you’re going running, jogging, walking, or going to workout such as strength training or Zumba.

Give Your Shoes a Break

Don’t wear your running sneakers all day every day. It’s okay to wear them back to back for two days or so but not constantly. It’s good to give your shoes a break from being worn.

Like everything in life, we want our shoes to last a very long time. But there may be times where you’ve outgrown your sneakers, you can’t fit them anymore or you just don’t like them anymore. If and when that happens, don’t throw your shoes away, recycle them. At GotSneakers, we’re making it socially and financially rewarding to contribute to a circular economy with our free sneaker recycling programs for individual sellers and organizations of all types and sizes. When you join our sneaker recycling community, you will be making a global impact and you will earn money for every pair of sneakers you contribute.

Our Individual Seller program at GotSneakers keeps sneakers out of landfills and reduces toxic chemicals from being released in our air and soil. All reusable sneakers from our Individual Seller program are recirculated to secondhand markets so people can access quality, pre-owned footwear at affordable prices. All heavily used and damaged footwear is recycled to reuse materials or to convert waste into new energy.
