How to Help Kids Make Sustainable Choices

Kids will help shape the future for all of us especially when it comes to this big, beautiful planet of ours. It’s important that we help them make sustainable choices at an early age so they can carry these with them as they grow up in life.

Go Out and Play!

Instead of watching television or being glued to a computer, tablet or phone screen, have your kids play outdoors. It would be good for them to get some fresh air and sunlight. Supervise them while they may safely climb a tree or play at a local park or playground. You all can also ride bicycles outside. They would be able to care and appreciate planet earth even more once they capture the beauty of the outdoors from the sky all the way to grass, and realize how much fun they are having.

Save Water & Energy

Teach your kids to save water by taking less time when they’re taking showers or baths. Ensure that they wash up but try not to waste so much water. When they’re brushing their teeth, tell them to only turn the faucet on to run water when they’re putting toothpaste on their toothbrush and rinsing their mouths. You can also encourage your kids to save energy by making sure they turn off all of the lights from lamps and light switches when they’re not in use.

Read Eco-Friendly Books

Before bedtime or naptime grab a kid-friendly book about the environment to read to your little ones. They can learn all about how to make sustainable choices in their everyday life. You can also pick up environmental kid-friendly coloring books for them.

Plant a Tree or Garden

As a family, you all can plant seeds and grow your own garden whether it be filled with flowers, plants, organic fruits, or vegetables. If you have enough space in your backyard you all can pick a nice spot to plant a tree.

No Litterbugs

Educate your kids to not throw trash on the floor in public and to always hold on to their trash until they find a garbage can. You should also teach them about recycling and to recycle items such as plastic bottles, aluminum cans, milk cartons, juice cartons, glass bottles, glass jars, junk mail, paper board boxes and more.

Recycle Your Kids’ Kicks

If your kids have outgrown their sneakers before they can even break them in, sign up with GotSneakers to turn their sneakers into cash. Teach them when things are old and worn out, you don’t always have to throw it away. Try and see if it can be recycled in any way.

At GotSneakers, our mission is to inspire the sneaker community to recycle and reuse quality pre-owned sneakers.
