The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency estimates that textile waste occupies nearly 5% of all landfill space. According to the U.S. Department of the Interior, Americans throw away at least 200 million pairs of shoes and sneakers in landfills each year, where they can take 30 to 40 years to decompose. Most of this footwear can be reused while 100% can be recycled. GotSneakers created a way to keep these shoes and sneakers out of landfills and extend their lifecycle while making a difference in the lives of others around the world.

Environment

GotSneakers is dedicated to a zero waste philosophy. Recycling used sneakers decreases the use of our natural resources, such as water used in growing crops and petroleum used in creating new sneakers. Recycling used sneakers also decreases the amount of chemicals that are used to manufacture new sneakers, as well as the amount of pollution that is produced during the manufacturing process.

Economy

GotSneakers collects used sneakers for reuse around the world. Our fundraising program helps both the United States and global economies. Local organizations facilitate sneaker drive fundraisers and earn money for every pair of sneakers collected. GotSneakers then collects and distributes the sneakers around the world to create access to affordable, quality footwear.

Education

GotSneakers believes that education can change the world. Sadly, the lack of footwear in certain parts of the world can keep young adults and children out of schools. Recycling used sneakers provides an opportunity for some to receive an education and overcome poverty.
